the life of a landscaper

SOooooo, I've been very busy and very sore lately. Ryan and I have teamed up with 'Aunt' Gail! She has a bad back so we are her hired muscle. We just finished up a job she got us at huuuuge property with a massive garden and hedges. This was exciting and somewhat daunting as we had never gardened a jungle before...needless to say, I fell off a ladder on the second day and sustained what I consider to be minimal damages (somewhat large bruises on my shin and arm). Gail told us to make it look "tickity-boo". I'm hoping that's landscaper-talk for 'half-decent'...
Gail is also showing us the ropes around town. Some afternoons we go do job quotes and visit different nurseries and landscape depots. She knows everyone in town and is introducing us to the ones we need to know, so we really hit the jackpot and can't thank her enough!
It's been fairly exhausting but I'm sure that's just a phase (it's called being out of shape). But my knees have been acting up now...that's no good...it seems like the same injury on both sides. Mark calls it a LCL. I call it shitty. It hasn't stopped me from working...but I think that unless I rest, it won't get better...hmmmm....we'll see what happens.

OH YAH! I almost forgot. I finally bought a guitar!!!! Its a Parkwood PW370FM Grand Concert Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar, nobigdeal. Set me back a few bones but it sounds amazing and it's mine!

Annnd then I crushed my phone and I need to get a new one I think...such is the life of a landscaper!

still alive

Just so you know, I didn't die. In fact, I'm doing well!

Did the Sun Run in 1 hr 13 mins 59 secs (Dash did it in 1 hr 14 mins, cus she has a bum knee), which is a good starting point I figure. Next year I'll shoot for under an hour, which I know is totally doable. Isaac was close, he did it in 1 hr 5 secs! So yeah, we`re pretty pumped on running, it`s been great. Isaac is already signing up for another 10 km run next month!

Combined with my landscaping work, this recent fitness flurry has been a wicked change of pace from the sedentary life.

No Way. No How.

Something is up...fate is trying to kill me or something.

I gotta weird ass cold that won't leave me.
I think strep throat is starting to combine with it.
I burnt the palm of my hand on a lawnmower engine.
and, my dad wants me to re-floor "a couple more rooms" at home.

And despite how much I would LOVE to stay home sick and plow through a season or two of Glee I won't let it happen. Nuh uh. I gotta stay on track, and besides, it feels good to just work through it all. What up wit dat?

Woop woop

It's a beautiful day out today and I'm sick. Some sorta whooping cough, I think...which doesn't mesh very well with my Sun Run training. I only have 1 month left before the big (well...small, really) run. Better get crackin.

Ryan and I have our first landscaping job pretty much lined up. Should be aight cus it's only for a friend, so there's less pressure if we screw up hard. With this beautiful weather we're having, I really can't wait. But I'm also quite nervous, to be honest. The hardest thing will be the first 5 jobs. After that, I'm sure it will be (relatively) smooth sailing. And working with Ry-guy will surely be interesting. Ry is a very unique blend of personality traits; he's very business-smart and hard-working but isn't very...proactive? I don't know if that's the right word, but lets just say that this business is definitely going to be a collaborative effort! The good thing is Ryan and I share the same sense of humor so we should be able to handle whatever comes at us with a laugh.

Anyways. I should go see a doctor. Get my throat checked and see if the doc can refer me and my nose-problems ('deviated septum') to a nose-specializing-doctor. I dream of the day when I'll be able to breathe normally like the majority of people. Maaaan, why hasn't 'instantly-improve-quality-of-breathing-and-therefore-life' been on my to-do list before this??? fail.

Ok, go.

Maundy Thursday

Bought most of the equipment for our landscaping endeavor today! Change of plans with the name of the business though; out with "The Yardsmiths" and in with "Green Side Up Landscaping and Such". Whichever name we settle on, I'm pumped.

Tomorrow is Good Friday. I'm looking forward to PPAC's Good Friday and Easter services. And the long weekend. Lots of things to do in the coming weeks so it will be nice to just reflect on things once more before I put my head down and get to work.

At The Table

Got back from Alpha and I feel like I just got prayed at. Or should I say, prayed for. Which is always great! It was a good night; heard some powerful stories and generally got very good advice about what I should be doing after Alpha.

It's my little bro's b-day and were gonna start up a landscaping bidness. "The Yardsmiths". Were gonna be huge. With Ry-guy's keen business sense and no-nonsense approach AND my vision and muscles were primed to succeed. And I'm looking forward to working outside! I should be able to work on my wicked rosy-pink tan.
